ينطلق الفيلم السعودي «آخر سهرة في طريق ر.» للمخرج والكاتب محمود صباغ، إلى مرحلة جديدة من حضوره العالمي مع بدء التوزيع الرقمي الدولي ابتداءً من 2 فبراير القادم، بوصفه عملًا ينتمي إلى قلب السينما السعودية المستقلة، ويعكس مقاربة فنية واقعية جريئة تلتقط تحولات المجتمع المعاصر بلغة بصرية صادقة وأسلوب سردي يتجاوز القوالب التجارية، ليقدّم تجربة إنسانية كثيفة التفاصيل والدلالات.
ويُعد الفيلم امتدادًا لمسار إبداعي يتكئ على الرهان الجمالي والفكري، ويؤكد قدرة السينما المحلية على مخاطبة جمهور عالمي بذات الخصوصية الثقافية.
وسيُعرض الفيلم، الذي تنتجه «الحوش برودكشونز»، عبر منصات رقمية عالمية تشمل Apple TV وGoogle Play وPrime Video، حيث تنطلق العروض في المملكة المتحدة وأيرلندا وبقية الأسواق الناطقة بالإنجليزية في 2 فبراير، على أن يليها الإطلاق في الولايات المتحدة وكندا بتاريخ 3 فبراير.
ويتولى الموزّع الفرنسي Under The Milky Way إدارة التوزيع الرقمي الدولي، بدعم من وزارة الثقافة الفرنسية، في خطوة تعكس الثقة الأوروبية المتنامية في السينما السعودية المستقلة، وقدرتها على النفاذ إلى أسواق العرض العالمية.
ويستند هذا الحضور الجديد إلى تجربة محمود صباغ الممتدة في صناعة السينما البديلة، إذ يُعد من أبرز رواد السينما المستقلة في المملكة منذ عام 2013، وأسهم بشكل مباشر في تشكيل ملامح الجيل الجديد من صُنّاع الأفلام السعوديين.
وبرز اسمه عالميًا مع فيلمه «بركة يقابل بركة»، الذي عُرض لأول مرة في مهرجان برلين السينمائي عام 2016، ليصبح أول فيلم سعودي طويل يُعرض على شاشة المهرجان العريق، كما سجّل سابقة بكونه أول فيلم سعودي يُرشّح لجائزة أفضل فيلم بلغة أجنبية، ضمن حفل توزيع جوائز الأوسكار التاسع والثمانين.
ولم يقتصر حضوره على المنافسة الفنية، بل امتد إلى صناعة القرار السينمائي الدولي، عبر مشاركته عضوًا في لجنة تحكيم جائزة أفضل فيلم في الدورة 67 لمهرجان برلين السينمائي الدولي.
وفي أكتوبر 2017، أعلن صباغ عن مشروعه الطويل الثاني «عمرة والزواج الثاني»، الذي جرى تصويره بالكامل داخل المملكة العربية السعودية، في تأكيد إضافي على رهانه على البيئة المحلية بوصفها فضاءً سرديًا وبصريًا غنيًا.
وعُرض الفيلم دوليًا لأول مرة ضمن مهرجان لندن السينمائي الدولي عام 2018، قبل أن يشارك في مهرجان القاهرة السينمائي الدولي في دورته الأربعين، ليواصل بذلك ترسيخ حضوره في المنصات السينمائية الكبرى.
The Saudi film "The Last Evening on Road R." directed and written by Mahmoud Sabbagh, is entering a new phase of its global presence with the start of international digital distribution beginning February 2nd, as a work that belongs to the heart of independent Saudi cinema. The film is considered an extension of a creative path that leans on aesthetic and intellectual bets, affirming the ability of local cinema to address a global audience with the same cultural specificity.
The film, produced by "Al-Hosh Productions," will be available on global digital platforms including Apple TV, Google Play, and Prime Video, with screenings launching in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and other English-speaking markets on February 2nd, followed by a release in the United States and Canada on February 3rd.
The French distributor Under The Milky Way is managing the international digital distribution, supported by the French Ministry of Culture, in a move that reflects the growing European confidence in independent Saudi cinema and its ability to penetrate global exhibition markets.
This new presence is based on Mahmoud Sabbagh's extensive experience in alternative cinema, as he is considered one of the leading figures in independent cinema in the Kingdom since 2013, directly contributing to shaping the features of the new generation of Saudi filmmakers.
His name gained international recognition with his film "Barakah Meets Barakah," which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2016, becoming the first feature-length Saudi film to be screened at the prestigious festival. It also made history as the first Saudi film to be nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards.
His presence has not been limited to artistic competition but has extended to the decision-making process in international cinema, through his participation as a jury member for the Best Film award at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.
In October 2017, Sabbagh announced his second feature project "Omrah and the Second Marriage," which was filmed entirely within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, further confirming his bet on the local environment as a rich narrative and visual space.
The film was screened internationally for the first time at the London Film Festival in 2018, before participating in the 40th Cairo International Film Festival, thus continuing to solidify its presence on major cinematic platforms.
