هزّت بلجيكا واحدة من أخطر قضايا الاحتيال الرقمي، بعد أن كشف محققون عن نشاط عصابة إجرامية متقنة، تخصصت في انتحال صفة شخصيات من العائلة المالكة البلجيكية، مستغلة التطور المتسارع في تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي لخداع شخصيات أجنبية مرموقة ورجال أعمال.
سيناريوهات محكمة
ووفقًا لما أعلنه الادعاء الفيدرالي، اعتمد أفراد العصابة على مزيج من الأساليب الاحتيالية، شملت رسائل بريد إلكتروني احترافية، ومكالمات هاتفية مباشرة، فضلًا عن مقاطع فيديو مزيفة جرى إنتاجها باستخدام تقنيات الذكاء الاصطناعي، لإضفاء مصداقية عالية على سيناريوهات الخداع التي أعدّوها بعناية.
انتحال لاستدراج الضحايا
وكشفت التحقيقات أن نشاط العصابة انطلق مطلع عام 2025، حيث لجأ المحتالون إلى استخدام تطبيقات التواصل، وعلى رأسها «واتساب»، إضافة إلى مكالمات هاتفية مباشرة، منتحلين صفة الملك فيليب أو أحد كبار مسؤولي الديوان الملكي، بهدف إقناع الضحايا بتحويل مبالغ مالية تحت ذرائع متعددة.
ضحايا مختارون بعناية
وأشار الادعاء إلى أن اختيار الضحايا لم يكن عشوائيًا، بل استند إلى علاقاتهم السابقة أو المحتملة بالعائلة المالكة، ما عزز من فرص نجاح عمليات الاحتيال. ورغم تمكن معظم المستهدفين من كشف الخدعة في مراحل مبكرة، نجحت العصابة في إحدى الحالات في الحصول على تحويل مالي فعلي.
مقابلات وهمية
وسعت العصابة إلى توسيع نطاق عملياتها، مستهدفة عائلات بلجيكية مقرّبة من القصر الملكي، عبر إرسال دعوات لإجراء مقابلات عبر الفيديو مع رجال أعمال، يُرجّح أن الصور المستخدمة فيها كانت مولّدة بالكامل بواسطة الذكاء الاصطناعي.
ولم تتوقف الأساليب عند هذا الحد، إذ تلقى بعض الضحايا دعوات لحضور حفلات عشاء وهمية، طُلب منهم دفع رسوم رعاية مزعومة، في محاولة جديدة لاستنزاف الأموال بغطاء ملكي زائف.
تحقيقات مستمرة
وأكد الادعاء الفيدرالي أن التحقيقات لا تزال مستمرة بالتعاون مع وحدات متخصصة من الشرطة الفيدرالية، لتعقب أفراد العصابة وكشف جميع خيوط القضية، في وقت أعادت فيه هذه الواقعة تسليط الضوء على تصاعد مخاطر الاحتيال الرقمي وضرورة توخي الحذر في عصر الذكاء الاصطناعي.
Belgium has shaken one of the most dangerous cases of digital fraud, after investigators uncovered the activities of a sophisticated criminal gang that specialized in impersonating members of the Belgian royal family, exploiting the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technologies to deceive prominent foreign figures and businessmen.
Tight Scenarios
According to the federal prosecution, the gang members relied on a mix of fraudulent methods, including professional emails, direct phone calls, as well as fake videos produced using artificial intelligence technologies, to lend high credibility to the carefully crafted deception scenarios they prepared.
Impersonation to Lure Victims
Investigations revealed that the gang's activities began in early 2025, where the fraudsters resorted to using communication applications, primarily "WhatsApp," in addition to direct phone calls, impersonating King Philippe or senior officials from the royal court, with the aim of convincing victims to transfer funds under various pretexts.
Carefully Selected Victims
The prosecution indicated that the selection of victims was not random, but rather based on their previous or potential connections to the royal family, which enhanced the chances of successful fraud operations. Although most targets managed to uncover the trick at early stages, the gang succeeded in one case in obtaining an actual financial transfer.
Fake Interviews
The gang sought to expand its operations, targeting Belgian families close to the royal palace, by sending invitations for video interviews with businessmen, likely using images that were entirely generated by artificial intelligence.
The methods did not stop there, as some victims received invitations to attend fake dinner parties, where they were asked to pay alleged sponsorship fees, in a new attempt to drain money under a false royal pretext.
Ongoing Investigations
The federal prosecution confirmed that investigations are still ongoing in collaboration with specialized units from the federal police, to track down the gang members and uncover all the threads of the case, at a time when this incident has once again highlighted the rising risks of digital fraud and the necessity of exercising caution in the age of artificial intelligence.
