في حادثة صادمة هزت ولاية بنسلفانيا، اكتشفت السلطات الأمريكية أكثر من 100 جمجمة بشرية مع عظام طويلة وأقدام متحجرة وجثث متحللة داخل منزل شاب يُدعى جوناثان جيرلاش ويبلغ من العمر 34 عاماً.
وجرى اعتقال المتهم جوناثان جيرلاش أثناء مغادرته مقبرة ماونت مورياه التاريخية الممتدة من فيلادلفيا إلى ييدون، بعد مراقبته من قبل الشرطة إثر بلاغات قدمتها منظمة غير ربحية معنية بحفظ المقبرة، والتي لاحظت تعرض القبور للتدنيس.
وكشف تفتيش المنزل مشهداً أشبه بأفلام الرعب في القبو، حيث تم العثور على الجثث والعظام، بالإضافة إلى ثماني مجموعات إضافية في مخزنه الشخصي. وأقرت النيابة بتوجيه مئات التهم إليه، منها السرقة، واستلام ممتلكات مسروقة، وإساءة التعامل مع الجثث، وتدمير ممتلكات عامة، والاقتحام، وتدنيس أشياء مقدسة، كما اعترف بسرقة نحو 30 مجموعة من المقبرة.
وقال مكتب المدعي العام لمقاطعة دلاوير على لسان المحامي تانر روز إن التحقيقات مستمرة لتحديد هوية الضحايا ومصدر العظام وعددها النهائي، مشيراً إلى أن بعض البقايا تعود لمئات السنين، وتضم أطفالاً حديثي الولادة وجثة تحتوي على جهاز تنظيم ضربات القلب. وأوضح أن الفترة بين السابع من نوفمبر واعتقاله شهدت اقتحام أو تدمير 26 قبراً ومقبرة، أغلبها يزيد عمرها على 100 عام.
ويُحتجز المتهم جوناثان جيرلاش بكفالة مليون دولار، بينما تواصل السلطات التحقيق لمعرفة مصادر باقي البقايا.

The accused, Jonathan Gerlach, was arrested while leaving the historic Mount Moriah Cemetery, which stretches from Philadelphia to Yeadon, after being monitored by police following reports from a nonprofit organization concerned with preserving the cemetery, which noted that graves were being desecrated.
A search of the home revealed a scene reminiscent of horror films in the basement, where bodies and bones were found, in addition to eight additional collections in his personal storage. The prosecution acknowledged filing hundreds of charges against him, including theft, receiving stolen property, abuse of a corpse, destruction of public property, burglary, and desecration of sacred things, and he confessed to stealing about 30 collections from the cemetery.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office spokesperson Tanner Rose stated that investigations are ongoing to identify the victims, the source of the bones, and their final count, noting that some remains date back hundreds of years and include newborns and a body containing a pacemaker. He explained that the period between November 7 and his arrest saw the burglary or destruction of 26 graves and cemeteries, most of which are over 100 years old.
The accused, Jonathan Gerlach, is being held on a million-dollar bail, while authorities continue to investigate the sources of the remaining remains.
