وسط توتر وتصعيد وبعد ساعات من الإعلان عن مكان وزمن المحادثات بين طهران وواشنطن، أعلن مسؤول أمريكي اليوم(الأربعاء) انهيار خطط المحادثات مع إيران، فيما حمل مسؤول إيراني واشنطن المسؤولية.
ونقل موقع «أكسيوس» عن مسؤول أمريكي قوله: أبلغنا إيران أن الخيار إما هذا أو لا شيء فأجابوا إذن لا شيء، مضيفاً: واشنطن أبلغت طهران أنها لن توافق على مطالبها بتغيير مكان وشكل محادثات الجمعة.
ولفت إلى أن المبعوث الأمريكي ستيف ويتكوف وكوشنر سيبحثان غداً (الخميس) في قطر ملف إيران ثم سيعودان لميامي، موضحاً أن بلاده تريد التوصل لاتفاق حقيقي مع إيران، وإلا هناك خيارات أخرى.
وأضاف المسؤول الأمريكي: «سنجتمع مع الإيرانيين إذا عادوا للصيغة الأصلية لمقترح المحادثات»، موضحاً أن السلطات الأمريكية أبلغت إيران أن طلباتهم بشأن المحادثات مرفوضة.
وأشار إلى أن تصميم إيران على نقل المحادثات من تركيا مرفوض.
بالمقابل، قال مسؤول إيراني لـ«رويترز»: طهران مستعدة لإجراء محادثات مع أمريكا بشأن النووي فقط، مضيفاً: «تصميم واشنطن على القضايا غير النووية يعرض المحادثات للخطر».
وكانت وسائل إعلام رسمية إيرانية قد أعلنت في وقت سابق اليوم، نقل المحادثات بين طهران وواشنطن التي كانت مقررة يوم الجمعة القادم إلى العاصمة العمانية مسقط بدلاً عن تركيا، وسيشارك فيها وزير الخارجية الإيراني عباس عراقجي والمبعوث الأمريكي ستيف ويتكوف، وأكد ذلك موقع «أكسيوس» الذي نقل عن مسؤول أمريكي قوله إن «إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب وافقت على طلب إيران نقل المحادثات من تركيا»، مضيفاً أن «المفاوضات لا تزال جارية بشأن مشاركة دول عربية وإسلامية في المحادثات».
Amid tension and escalation, and just hours after the announcement of the location and timing of the talks between Tehran and Washington, a U.S. official announced today (Wednesday) the collapse of the plans for talks with Iran, while an Iranian official held Washington responsible.
The Axios website quoted a U.S. official as saying: "We informed Iran that the option is either this or nothing," to which they responded, "Then nothing." He added: "Washington informed Tehran that it would not agree to their demands to change the location and format of the talks on Friday."
He noted that U.S. envoy Steve Wietkoff and Jared Kushner will discuss the Iran file tomorrow (Thursday) in Qatar before returning to Miami, explaining that his country wants to reach a real agreement with Iran, otherwise there are other options.
The U.S. official added: "We will meet with the Iranians if they return to the original format of the proposed talks," clarifying that U.S. authorities have informed Iran that their requests regarding the talks are rejected.
He pointed out that Iran's insistence on moving the talks from Turkey is unacceptable.
In contrast, an Iranian official told Reuters: "Tehran is only ready to hold talks with the U.S. regarding the nuclear issue," adding: "Washington's insistence on non-nuclear issues jeopardizes the talks."
Earlier today, Iranian state media announced the relocation of the talks between Tehran and Washington, which were scheduled for next Friday, to the Omani capital Muscat instead of Turkey. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoy Steve Wietkoff will participate in the talks. This was confirmed by Axios, which quoted a U.S. official saying that "the Trump administration agreed to Iran's request to move the talks from Turkey," adding that "negotiations are still ongoing regarding the participation of Arab and Islamic countries in the talks."
