قدم وزير الدفاع الإيطالي غويدو كروسيتو عرضاً مفاجئاً لنظيره الأوكراني السابق ميخايلو فيدوروف للعمل مستشاراً له في روما، بعد إقالته من منصبه.
وكشف كروسيتو في مقابلة مع صحيفة «لا ريبوبليكا»، أنه تواصل مع فيدوروف في اليوم التالي لإقالته، وقال له: «متى ترغب في القدوم إلى روما والعمل معي مستشاراً؟».
وأضاف أن فيدوروف «تأثر» بالعرض، معتبراً أن الخطوة عكست الاحترام والصداقة التي يكنها له، في ظل تقدير إيطالي للدور الذي لعبه الوزير الأوكراني السابق في تحديث المؤسسة العسكرية وتطوير استخدام التكنولوجيا والطائرات المسيّرة في الحرب.
وتزامن عرض كروسيتو مع أزمة سياسية وعسكرية أثارتها إقالة فيدوروف، الذي كان يحظى بشعبية داخل أوساط عسكرية ومدنية أوكرانية، إذ خرج محتجون في كييف ومدن أخرى للمطالبة بإعادته إلى منصبه، معتبرين أن رحيله قد يهدد مسار الإصلاح والتحديث العسكري الذي قاده خلال فترة توليه وزارة الدفاع.
وفي حديثه عن الدعم العسكري الإيطالي لأوكرانيا، قال كروسيتو إن كييف كانت تطلب في البداية إرسال كل ما يمكن لإيطاليا توفيره من أسلحة، لكن الحاجات باتت أكثر تحديداً في الوقت الراهن، وتشمل أنظمة معقدة ومتطورة، لا سيما في مجال الدفاع الجوي.
وأشار إلى أن حجم الطلب الأوكراني على هذه الأنظمة يفوق العرض المتاح بكثير، موضحاً أن «الطلب أكبر بمئة مرة من العرض»، لكنه أكد في الوقت نفسه مواصلة العمل على جمع ما يلزم لتقديم المساعدة إلى أوكرانيا، معرباً عن أمله في إنجاز ذلك قريباً.
وكان الرئيس الأوكراني زيلينسكي أعاد تشكيل الحكومة بإقالة رئيسة الوزراء يوليا سفيريدينكو، وهو ما أدى إلى خروج فيدوروف من وزارة الدفاع بعد نحو ستة أشهر فقط من توليه المنصب. وأثارت الإقالة توتراً سياسياً واسعاً، خصوصاً مع تصاعد الخلافات بين فيدوروف وقيادة الجيش بشأن مسار الإصلاح العسكري والإستراتيجية المتبعة في مواجهة روسيا.
وتصاعدت الأزمة لاحقاً مع إقالة قائد القوات المسلحة الأوكرانية أولكسندر سيرسكي، وتعيين ميخايلو دراباتي خلفاً له، في خطوة عكست حجم الاضطراب الذي شهدته القيادة العسكرية الأوكرانية خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة.
وتبرز قصة فيدوروف أهمية الدور الذي لعبه في دفع أوكرانيا نحو نموذج عسكري يعتمد بدرجة أكبر على التكنولوجيا والابتكار والطائرات المسيّرة، وهو ما جعله يحظى باهتمام دولي، في وقت تواجه فيه كييف تحديات متزايدة في الحصول على أنظمة الدفاع الجوي والأسلحة المتقدمة اللازمة لاستمرار عملياتها العسكرية.
The Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto made a surprising offer to his former Ukrainian counterpart Mykhailo Fedorov to work as his advisor in Rome, following Fedorov's dismissal from his position.
Crosetto revealed in an interview with the newspaper "La Repubblica" that he contacted Fedorov the day after his dismissal, asking him: "When would you like to come to Rome and work with me as an advisor?"
He added that Fedorov was "touched" by the offer, considering that the step reflected the respect and friendship he holds for him, amidst Italian appreciation for the role the former Ukrainian minister played in modernizing the military institution and developing the use of technology and drones in the war.
Crosetto's offer coincided with a political and military crisis sparked by Fedorov's dismissal, who was popular among military and civilian circles in Ukraine, as protesters took to the streets in Kyiv and other cities demanding his reinstatement, believing that his departure could threaten the path of military reform and modernization that he led during his tenure as defense minister.
Speaking about Italian military support for Ukraine, Crosetto said that Kyiv initially requested the sending of everything Italy could provide in terms of weapons, but the needs have become more specific at present, including complex and advanced systems, particularly in the field of air defense.
He noted that the volume of Ukrainian demand for these systems far exceeds the available supply, explaining that "the demand is a hundred times greater than the supply," but he also confirmed the ongoing efforts to gather what is necessary to provide assistance to Ukraine, expressing hope to achieve that soon.
Ukrainian President Zelensky reshuffled the government by dismissing Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, which led to Fedorov's exit from the Ministry of Defense after only about six months in office. The dismissal sparked widespread political tension, especially with the escalating disagreements between Fedorov and the military leadership regarding the course of military reform and the strategy employed in confronting Russia.
The crisis later escalated with the dismissal of the Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky, and the appointment of Mykhailo Drabaty as his successor, in a move that reflected the extent of the turmoil experienced by the Ukrainian military leadership in recent weeks.
The story of Fedorov highlights the importance of the role he played in pushing Ukraine towards a military model that relies more on technology, innovation, and drones, which has garnered him international attention, at a time when Kyiv faces increasing challenges in acquiring the necessary air defense systems and advanced weapons to sustain its military operations.
