أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أن استقالة كبار مسؤولي الإذاعة البريطانية (BBC) هي «معاقبة» لتلاعبهم بخطابه «الرائع والمثالي» في 6 يناير 2021، يوم اقتحام الكابيتول، وذلك في تعليق حاد يعكس انتصاره الشخصي على «الإعلام الكاذب».

وقال ترمب في منشور له عبر منصته «تروث سوشيال»، «عدد من كبار مسؤولي شبكة BBC استقالوا أو تم فصلهم من مناصبهم، بعد أن تم ضبطهم — على حد قوله — وهم يزيفون خطابه الرائع والمثالي الذي ألقاه في السادس من يناير عام 2021، يوم اقتحام مبنى الكونغرس الأمريكي».

وأوضح ترمب أن القائمين على إنتاج أحد تقارير BBC قاموا بالتلاعب في التسجيلات الخاصة بخطابه لتصويره بشكل سلبي، مضيفاً أن «الحقيقة ظهرت أخيراً، وتمت معاقبة المسؤولين».

يأتي هذا التعليق بعد ساعات من إعلان المدير العام تيم دافي والرئيسة التنفيذية للأخبار ديبورا تيرنيس استقالتهما، في أكبر أزمة تواجه الـBBC منذ فضيحة «الدوسييه العراقي» عام 2004.

واندلعت الفضيحة بعد عرض وثائقي «بانوراما» في أعقاب الانتخابات الأمريكية، حيث دُمج مقطعان من خطاب ترمب ليوحي بحرص مباشر على العنف، رغم أن النص الكامل يحتوي على دعوات لـ«التشجيع السلمي».

وكشفت مسربة مذكرة داخلية لـ«تلغراف» عن «التحيز اليساري»، مما أدى إلى حملة #BBCBias التي جمعت ملايين التفاعلات على إكس، ودعوات من بوريس جونسون لاستقالة دافي.

وقال دافي في بيان له «أتحمل المسؤولية الكاملة عن الأخطاء، وهذا قراري الشخصي في أوقات مضطربة»، أما تيرنيس، فقالت: «الجدل وصل إلى مرحلة تسبب ضرراً للـBBC، وكرئيسة للأخبار، الخط ينتهي عندي».

Trump said in a post on his platform "Truth Social," "A number of senior officials at the BBC have resigned or been fired from their positions after being caught — as he put it — distorting his wonderful and perfect speech delivered on January 6, 2021, the day of the storming of the U.S. Capitol."

Trump explained that those responsible for producing one of the BBC reports manipulated recordings of his speech to portray it negatively, adding that "the truth has finally come out, and the officials have been punished."

This comment comes hours after General Director Tim Davie and News Chief Deborah Turness announced their resignations, in the biggest crisis facing the BBC since the "Iraqi Dossier" scandal in 2004.

The scandal erupted after the airing of a "Panorama" documentary following the U.S. elections, where two clips from Trump's speech were edited together to imply a direct incitement to violence, despite the full text containing calls for "peaceful encouragement."

A leaked internal memo to the "Telegraph" revealed "leftist bias," leading to the #BBCBias campaign that garnered millions of interactions on X, and calls from Boris Johnson for Davie's resignation.

Davie said in a statement, "I take full responsibility for the mistakes, and this is my personal decision in troubled times," while Turness stated, "The controversy has reached a point that is damaging to the BBC, and as the head of news, the line stops with me."
