أعلنت شركة الطيران الأمريكية Southwest Airlines عن قرار جديد يلزم الركاب الذين يشغل وزنهم أكثر من مقعد واحد بشراء مقعد إضافي مدفوع، بعد أن كان الحصول عليه مجانياً عند الحاجة. القرار يدخل حيّز التنفيذ اعتباراً من 27 يناير 2026، وفق ما نقلت صحيفة «مترو».
وتنص السياسة الجديدة على أن استرداد ثمن المقعد الثاني سيكون محدوداً جداً، كما تُلغي إمكانية طلب مقعد إضافي مجاني عند المطار أو استرداده لاحقاً، ما يفرض على المسافرين التخطيط المسبق قبل الرحلة. ويصبح الاسترداد ممكناً فقط إذا غادر المسافر الرحلة مع مقعد واحد فارغ، بشرط أن يكون كلا المقعدين تم شراؤهما ضمن فئة الحجز نفسها.
أثار القرار ردود فعل غاضبة، إذ وصفت الجمعية الوطنية لتقدّم قبول الوزن الزائد (NAAFA) هذه الخطوة بأنها «ضربة مؤلمة» للركاب الأكبر حجماً، معتبرة أنها تزيد من تكلفة السفر وتحدّ من حرية الركاب، خصوصاً بعد إلغاء نظام المقاعد المفتوحة الذي كان يسمح باختيار المقعد عند الصعود إلى الطائرة.
القرار يعكس توجهاً متزايداً لشركات الطيران لتعديل سياسات المقاعد بما يتناسب مع احتياجات المسافرين الأكبر حجماً، لكنه يضع مسؤولية التخطيط والدفع المسبق على الركاب، مما قد يزيد من الضغط المالي والنفسي على شريحة واسعة من المسافرين.
